Ian Roome MP speaking in the House of Commons

"Yesterday it was finally my turn to make my Maiden Speech in the House of Commons.

By tradition, MPs are invited to talk about their own constituencies, their predecessors, and what makes their home special. I joined other new Liberal Democrat MPs from across Devon including Steve Darling MP (Torbay) and Martin Wrigley MP (Newton Abbot), in doing just that.

I spoke about how service in the Royal Air Force brought me to Chivenor, about North Devon's stunning landscapes and its areas of outstanding natural beauty. There are many challenges to be tackled here - but I have been astounded by the possibilities North Devon has to offer, and I wanted to highlight just a few of those from the famous green benches.

North Devon is an area with hidden opportunities around every corner. It is a privilege to serve as your voice in Parliament, and I intend to do it justice." - Ian Roome MP
