    Nick Harvey has today launched his re-election campaign for the General Election on 7th May 2015.

    Speaking today, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North Devon said:

    "I'm pleased today to have fired the 'starting gun' on my campaign to continue my work as North Devon's MP for the next five years. I look forward to speaking to local people across the constituency over the next six weeks about the issues that really matter to them at this election.

    Local MP Nick Harvey has paid a visit to one of North Devon's top tourist businesses as part of English Tourism Week 2015.

    Ilfracombe's Hele Valley Holiday Park has recently celebrated an overall win in the prestigious Devon Tourism Awards as Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year. Its owners, David and Sandra Dovey, took Nick on a tour around the site and spoke to him about some of the challenges facing tourist businesses in North Devon.

    Nick Harvey MP says, "Thousands of people in North Devon have already felt the benefit of Lib Dem income tax cuts and the increase in National Minimum Wage is another step in the right direction."

    Around 1,500 workers in North Devon will see a boost to their pay packet from October this year, thanks to Liberal Democrats in government.

    Nick Harvey MP has met local healthcare commissioners and Ilfracombe Tyrrell Hospital campaigners to discuss the future of inpatient beds at the North Devon hospital.

    At a meeting today organised by the MP, representatives from the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) explained that a decision on the long-term viability of the beds would be due by autumn this year. Since 1 November, inpatient beds at the Tyrrell have been closed due to staffing issues and the CCG is currently reviewing community services.

    North Devon MP Nick Harvey has welcomed Health Minister Norman Lamb on a visit to North Devon District Hospital.

    The Lib Dem Minister for Care and Support saw the new Fortescue dementia ward, which has recently been refurbished with new colours and fittings sensitive to the needs of dementia patients.

    "Today's Budget delivered a series of positive measures to strengthen the economy, boost the recovery and build a fairer society. There are clear Lib Dem hallmarks throughout it and Chief Secretary Danny Alexander deserves credit for making this happen.

    Speaking in a Parliamentary debate, North Devon MP and F40 campaign vice-chair Nick Harvey urged colleagues across the Commons benches to commit to fairer funding for rural schools.

    At present, Devon is the 6th-worst funded school authority in the country, disadvantaging pupils at North Devon schools by hundreds of pounds compared to the English average. The Government took the first steps to addressing the problem by setting aside a £390million cash uplift in this year's budgets for some of the lowest-funded authorities - giving around £200 more per pupil to Devon's schools.

    Commenting on the news that the 5p fuel rebate scheme for postcode area EX53 has been given final approval by the EU, Nick Harvey has said:

    "I'm very pleased the fuel rebate for the Lynton and Lynmouth area for has been given full and final EU approval, with the discount set to come in at the end of May. We live in an area where people are highly dependent on cars to get around and heightened petrol prices have put a real strain on families' finances. Customers of Barbrook filling station will now feel the benefits of this rebate at the pumps and I'm grateful to Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander for supporting the bid for North Devon's rebate and delivering this helpful scheme in Government."

    Nick Harvey MP joined a cross-party lobby today to continue the fight for fairer funding for Devon's schools.

    At a meeting with Schools Minister Nick Gibb, Harvey was joined by his fellow F40 Parliamentary Chair Robin Walker, Conservative MP for Worcester, and Cllr Ivan Ould, Chair of the F40 fairer funding campaign.
